The 1980s were a classic decade according to our perspective at The Status Life and as if to demonstrate this fact, we showcase this exquisite 1981 Ferrari 512 BBi up for auction with RM Sotheby’s. It is one of only 1,007 units of the 512 BBi manufactured between 1981 and 1984 and it is showcased in exceptional condition considering it’s been on the road for more than four decades. This fantastic piece from RM Sotheby’s is presented in the captivating color combination of Rosso Corsa with cream and red leather interior for the epitome of vintage cool vibes.

Boasting an odometer reading of just 25,964 kilometers, this majestic 1981 Ferrari 512 BBi from RM Sotheby’s still has plenty of life ahead. We’ve always harbored a fondness for Ferraris here at The Status Life and when they appear as effortlessly stylish as this one, it’s easy to understand why. It is scheduled for auction at RM Sotheby’s London and has received maintenance from Ferrari expert, H.R. Owen, in February 2022, at a cost exceeding £4,000.

This marvelous piece is a rare and greatly desired early model originating from the inaugural year of BBi production. It was then shipped in January 1982 through the well-known German Ferrari dealer, Auto Becker of Düsseldorf, unsurprisingly equipped in left-hand drive and completed in the iconic Ferrari color combination of Rosso Corsa with Black leather interior. Surprisingly, however, the car was outfitted with body-colored induction intakes and spoilers instead of the more common satin black components. These attention-grabbing features have been preserved to this day.

Devotees of classic cars would argue that recent times have led to a newfound and completely justified admiration for BB-series Ferraris. Their race-bred technical specifications, era-defining Pininfarina design, unmatched performance, and undeniable status as the pioneer of the mid-engined “modern era” road-going Ferraris all contribute to their appeal. Moreover, as the 50th anniversary of the unveiling of the 365 GT4 BB at the 1973 Paris Motor Show approaches, this represents both an opportune moment and an exciting chance to venture into BB-series ownership at a relatively modest cost.
